Davisville Free Library – A Local Resource for Knowledge since 1917

I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

For most of us, the search for knowledge has been sped up tremendously by the internet.  Facts and information are readily available through tablets, smart phones, computers and can be assessed with ease.  I caution everyone to check the source of the information online before deeming it to be valid, as just about anyone can publish just about anything online.  Prior to the internet (this is for my young readers and their friends – S, G, H, M, & M), knowledge was readily available at your local public library.  In these places of knowledge, you had to do a bit of work at times – walking down a flight of stairs or searching a long aisle of books for a specific card catalog number – but in the end, more often than not, you could find what you were looking for. Libraries carry some of the most historic pieces of literature as well as local history and truly are an adventure in reading.  One such library in North Kingstown, Davisville Free Library, is approaching 100 years of being North Kingstown’s resource for knowledge.

In our continuing series on promoting local businesses, the North Kingstown Blog is thrilled to learn more about Davisville Free Library.  I visited this local resource recently for a PBS “Our Town” meeting.  There on the shelf to my right, just after the librarian’s desk, was a classic novel (in very good condition I might add) that has been an important link to my father and his love of nature and reading, Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea.”  It made me pause and realize how important libraries are to me and my family.  Here is some more information from North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce member, Davisville Free Library.
The Davisville Free Library is a charming and welcoming public library located in historic Davisville at 481 Davisville Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852. For information regarding resources or upcoming events and programs at the library visit www.davisvillefreelibrary.org or friend us on Facebook!  Our Facebook page can be accessed through this link – Davisville Free Library.

These small places not only hold books, but memories,; when people found time to search out information, instead of relying on the internet to place it before them. I cannot help but feel they were smarter for it.

We absolutely love your blog and find the majority of your post’s to be just what I’m looking for.
Does one offer guest writers to write content available
for you? I wouldn’t mind creating a post or elaborating
on some of the subjects you write in relation to here.

    Again, awesome website!
