The North Kingstown Food Pantry’s Blessings in a Backpack Program

There is charitable work being done every day at the North Kingstown Food Pantry.  Food drives, food collections, and other fundraisers are currently being held throughout North Kingstown.  Here is a short list of some of these opportunities to donate money or food to the North Kingstown Food Pantry:

  • Food collection at BankRI –  BankRI is doing a statewide food drive from August 3 to September 25.  In North Kingstown, you can drop off food at the local NK branch on Ten Rod Rd
  • JW Graham Sale will Benefit NK Pantry! JW Graham and Yes! Gallery, located in Wickford Village, want to reward their customers for their donations to the North Kingstown Food Pantry
  • North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament August 17th

A quote from the mission statement of the North Kingstown Food Pantry states that the board members, volunteers, and all associated with the food pantry “share a vision to eliminate hunger in our community.”  Part of our community includes school age children and the North Kingstown Food Pantry has a program to help.  It’s called “Blessings in a Backpack.”  This program is a nationally recognized effort to combat childhood hunger, which some research believes contributes to poor academic performance and an inability to function properly in school.  According to their website, www.blessingsinabackpack.org, “Blessings in a Backpack started with just two schools in 2005 and now serves over 76,000 students in 800 schools spread throughout 44 states and the District of Columbia.”  Information about donating to this program, which is currently offered at SMH Quidnessett Elementary and Davisville Middle Schools here in North Kingstown, click on this link.

One important notice about donating and/or dropping off food at the North Kingstown Food Pantry.  Per the official website of the North Kingstown Food Pantry, “Please DO NOT drop off food at the pantry when the pantry is not open.  The RI Community Food Bank does not allow us to use food that was dropped off unattended.”  Food donations may be dropped off at the Little Red School House between 10 am-2 pm Monday-Friday & the 4th Saturday of the month from 10 am- Noon.  Evening times & other times need an appointment!

The RIBBE is The Rhode Island Baseball Experience. It is promoting the game of baseball here in the great state of Rhode Island for the entire baseball world to see. The RIBBE is positive stories, photos, videos, and responsible social media posts. The RIBBE is an information resource for families looking for an AAU team or a summer camp or a great place to buy a first baseman’s mitt. The RIBBE is a network of coaches, tournament directors, parents, leagues, and baseball junkies whose passion of the game of baseball is unquestioned. I believe that providing expert analysis, information and directions to ballfields, and coaching advice from some of the top RI baseball minds will help promote the game of baseball here in RI to a whole new level.

  1. Hopefully, the NK Food Pantry will be featured in the Our Town/North Kingstown program. Some of the same volunteers have been at it for 20-30 years. It serves not only those who are hungry, but also, those in need. Need occurs when food stamps are gone and when extra family members need a meal. Give what you would want-give often.
