Biomes Marine Biology Center has been connecting North Kingstown families to the wonders and marine life of Narragansett Bay for thirty years.
Growing up along the water, exploring the wide range of marine life has always been a great joy of mine. Whether it was the barnacles which collected on the “rock” or the horseshoe crabs at the North Kingstown Town Beach or various sea creatures and vegetation under and around the rocks at Beavertail Lighthouse, I find all marine life fascinating. Most New England marine enthusiasts are familiar with the larger aquariums in our area – Mystic, CT and Boston, MA. I recently caught up with Aimee Falso, General Manager of North Kingstown’s Biomes Marine Center, who was kind enough to provide me with some great information about our local marine center. Biomes Marine Center is located at 6640 Post Rd. right here in North Kingstown. Here is more from Aimee:
Biomes Marine Biology Center is New England’s most hands-on aquarium and has been helping connect children and adults to Narragansett Bay marine life for nearly 30 years. North Kingstown resident Mark Hall started Biomes as a way to bring marine life education into schools and has since grown it into a business offering programs to both schools and the general public.
All of the marine life in the building has been caught in Narragansett Bay which makes us very unique as an aquarium. We have over 100 species of marine life including starfish, sea urchins, lobsters, horseshoe crabs, seahorses, sting ray, skates, and of course our sharks! The aquarium has a number of big, open touch tanks so visitors can get up-close and personal with many types of animals and on weekends and school vacation weeks, we offer animal feedings and demos throughout the day.
Biomes is open 7 days a week from 12pm – 5pm for public visitors. Admission and program fees are the sole source of income to keep this 10,000 square foot facility running. Mornings are reserved for field trips, birthday parties, and private programs.
Our fall session of classes is starting up mid-September. We offer an Ocean Explorers Class for preschool age, Ocean Adventures for elementary students, and an art class with local mural artist Bob Ratigan. We also offer homeschool classes, Scout programs and special events throughout the year.
All of our field trips and in-class programs for public and private schools are discounted 10% from September 1 – February 1. These school programs are designed for grades Pre-K through 12 and can be tailored to meet a teacher’s curriculum needs.

The RIBBE is The Rhode Island Baseball Experience. It is promoting the game of baseball here in the great state of Rhode Island for the entire baseball world to see. The RIBBE is positive stories, photos, videos, and responsible social media posts. The RIBBE is an information resource for families looking for an AAU team or a summer camp or a great place to buy a first baseman’s mitt. The RIBBE is a network of coaches, tournament directors, parents, leagues, and baseball junkies whose passion of the game of baseball is unquestioned. I believe that providing expert analysis, information and directions to ballfields, and coaching advice from some of the top RI baseball minds will help promote the game of baseball here in RI to a whole new level.
