A family so near and dear to the Rhode Island Baseball and sports community, the Marocco’s (Jaxon’s Grandfather is Steve Marocco of Elmwood Sports) continue to honor Jaxon, who passed away from Niemann-Pick disease, a rare genetic disorder, at just 22 months old. The Rhode Island sports community, especially Cranston, Warwick, and Johnston, have all had fundraisers, charity events, and more to raise funds and awareness to honor Jax. Warwick North Little League will be hosting the 3rd Annual Jaxon Marocco Tournament which will be held on Monday August 13th thru Saturday August 18th (Possibly Sunday August 19th). We will ask ALL participating teams attend opening ceremonies on Monday August 13th to honor Jax and the rest of the Marocco family.
This will be a double elimination tournament (Depending on number of participating teams we will add a consolation bracket so all teams could be guaranteed 3 games).
This tournament has replaced the Red Andrew’s tournament that historically had been for 12 year olds in their final year of little league who had NOT made a district All-Star team. This year we will open the baseball age groups up to 10-12 years olds.(ABSOLUTLEY NO DISTRICT ALLSTARS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY)
Games this year will be at Warwick North fields -Bend Street and Westside Complex. All fields have lights and scoreboards and score booths. We will play 5:30 and 7:30 games at each complex during the tournament and all day on Saturday/Sunday. We run full snack bars. Please do not bring food to the games. The snack bar proceeds help the host leagues offset the cost of running the tournament and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Jaxon Marocco Foundation. Batting cages are available for warm-ups.
The entrance fee is $250 per team. The entrance fee will be used to purchase awards, baseballs and pay any umpires. All remaining proceeds will be donated directly to The Jaxon Marocco Foundation.
First Place and Second place teams will receive trophies or metals that designate their placement in the tournament and their league will receive a plague.
Please complete and return the enclosed entry form and return it together with your entry fee to the address shown on the form by Tuesday July 24, 2018. After July 25, 2018, we will start inviting other Little Leagues in District III and other districts as needed. Please do not assume that if you had a team in the tournament last year there will be a spot saved again this year. A representative of your league MUST contact the tournament director with your leagues desire to participate this year ASAP.
