The 2018 State Tournaments for the 10U, 11U, and 12U divisions are in the books. The tournaments were held some of Rhode Island’s most iconic baseball fields in Pawtucket (Slater Park), Cranston (John Chaffee Complex) and Lincoln (Lonsdale Park). Huge crowds of supportive families, local volunteers, and a legion of baseball fans attended the games. Huge shout-out to the host leagues of Darlington American Little League (12U), Cranston Western Little League (11U), and Lincoln Little League (10U) for making the extra efforts all week – making sure the fields are in top notch condition, stocking the concession stands, announcers, scorers, and much more. These 10U, 11U, and 12U players, coaches, and families will have wonderful memories to last a lifetime. Thank you for supporting youth sports, especially Little League® baseball in your town and in the State of Rhode Island. Here is how the state tournament games finished up:
10U – After reaching the finals and needing to win two games, Warwick’s Continental American defeated Cranston Western Little League to capture the 10U State Title. Continental American now moves onto the Eastern Regional Tournament set for early August. That tournament will be played at Cranston Western’s Varrato Field at the John Chaffee Complex, 450 Hope Rd., Cranston.
11U – King Philip Little League continued their very impressive run in the Districts by capturing the 11U state title over a very good Coventry Little League team. King Philip moves onto the Eastern Regional Tournament which will be held in Beverly, MA at Harry Ball Field, 410 Essex Street, Beverly, MA starting next week.
12U – Coventry Little League impressed not only their fan base but the entire Rhode Island Little League community this District season and finished a successful run in the Districts and States by winning the 12U State Championship over Lincoln Little League. With stellar pitching, power at the plate, and almost error-free baseball, Coventry Little League has put not only Rhode Island but all of Little League® on notice that they are here to play and here to WIN!!! Next up on the #roadtowilliamsport is the East Regional Little League® tournament in Bristol, CT. Tournament starts on August 5th.
One final note to wrap up this recap. I have been seeing incredible Facebook posts from not only the winning leagues of Continental American, Coventry Little League, and King Philip Little League, but also from other Little Leagues with words of encouragement, congratulations, and good will. The good sportsmanship being displayed by these leagues, who didn’t make it to the states or maybe came up one game short of the title, is just awesome and I applaud each and every one of you. We are all baseball fans, we are all Rhode Islanders, and we all support youth sports like Little League®. Great job fans.
Best of luck to all the players, coaches, league administrators, families, sponsors, friends, and fans as you continue to Regional Tournaments. The Rhode Island Baseball Experience will continue to update games and provide photos and game results as they become available.
