From Area Scouts RI Twitter page – “Area Scouts RI is excited to welcome Lenny DiNardo as our Northeast Director of Pitching. A World Series Champion with the 2004 Red Sox, Lenny will be working with our Rhode Island and Massachusetts Pitchers to keep them healthy and get them to the next level!” DiNardo also tweeted out “I’m excited to help pitchers stay healthy and play this game for as long as they’d like. There are too many preventable injuries. Small adjustments lead to big results.”
Quick personal story about Lenny DiNardo. I have never met him in person but recall an encounter with him in 2017. I was doing a story on a newly opened baseball facility in Exeter called Snapdragon Baseball. Snapdragon is still in operation there on 560 South County Trail and has been a great resource for instruction, AAU teams, and all things baseball here in South County since they opened their doors. When I was meeting up with Sean and Jeremy, the owners, a tall left handed baseball coach was working with a high school player in the corner of the facility. They were playing catch and the tall left handed coach was really firing the baseball over to the high school player, with some major authority. Pitchers with that special ability to make the baseball hiss cause former pitchers like myself (who had no hiss) to turn their heads. I didn’t take his photo, as I was really focusing the article on Snapdragon, Sean, and Jeremy but I did take a closer look at his face. It was former professional baseball player and Boston Red Sox reliever Lenny DiNardo. He was working with North Kingstown’s Henry Hershum, who was probably a freshman in High School back in 2017. And with Coach DiNardo’s assistance and his own hard work, Hershum progressed and progressed over the span of his High School career at Prout School. And, I read this summer that Hershum signed a letter of intent to go to Division 1 Old Dominion University. That is a great coaching success story!
