Monday, September 21st marked the beginning of the 2020 Rhode Island All Star Tournament. 20 teams, 20 baseball communities – played opening round games to determine the seeding for this weekend’s single elimination tournament. Games were played under the lights in East Greenwich, North Kingstown, Cranston, Coventry, Smithfield, Lincoln, Narragansett, Warwick, and Cumberland at some of the finest youth baseball fields in all of Rhode Island. In the first round of 2 games played home runs were hit, strikeouts were recorded, fans cheered loudly, and hot dogs were consumed. Rhode Island youth baseball, with all its abnormalities in 2020, seemed to be back to normal this week. There is nothing, I repeat, nothing like youth baseball playoffs and championship games. Nothing compares!!!
16 teams have now advanced to the single elimination series of games to be played this Friday, Saturday, and the championship games Sunday. Here is the most up to date bracket of games for Friday night, based on seeding from the Opening Round of games:
Few items to note. There are (2) Cranston Western Little League teams remaining in the tournament. They are listed as Team #2 and Team #5. Game times for most games on Friday is 6:00pm. Only exception I see is Cranston Western Team #2 will play King Philip Little League at 8pm on Friday. Wilson Park has 2 fields, so both games will be played at the same time at 6:00pm. On the side of the game brackets, you will see the 16 teams remaining ranked 1 through 16. This is a single elimination bracket so winners will move on to Saturday’s round of games, which will be played at Dow Field, Chariho. Sunday’s Championship games are also at Dow Field, Chariho.
Narragansett, Scituate (two teams entered), and Pineview did not move on. Congrats to those teams, players, coaches, and leagues for participating in this year’s 2020 All Star Tournament.
For the 16 teams remaining, good luck to all the players, coaches, and families. What an exciting time for baseball here in Rhode Island for these incredible 12U players. Stay tuned each day for updates on the tournament, game results, and photos sent in from parents, coaches, and leagues.
