Game Day – Salve Regina vs Johnson and Wales at Beck Field, URI – Saturday March 5

Today, Saturday March 5th, is the opening day for two Rhode Island collegiate baseball programs. Salve Regina University, Newport and Johnson & Wales University- Providence will open their 2022 baseball seasons today – against each other. This series of games was supposed to be played last weekend, but was postponed due to weather (you remember that ice storm on Friday???). Despite game time temperatures expected in the 40s, Salve vs JWU will kick off around 11am today. The teams will meet at URI’s Bill Beck Field in Kingston. Check out these amazing videos and photos that I saw on the social media pages of Salve Baseball and JWU Baseball leading up to today’s matchup:

On JWU PVD Instagram Page – Big thanks and shout out to @crocs for the gear drop right before Opening Day!
On Salve Baseball’s Instagram page – 3 days left to Opening Day!

Amazing work done by the sports information, media relations, and team photographers/videographers from each school. There is clearly a ton of talent on the field and in the press boxes for each school. And as far as baseball talent on the field from Rhode Island, check out this list of players:

  • Patrick Maybach, Salve Regina – North Kingstown
  • Carter Grimm, Salve Regina – Middletown
  • Gianfranco Messina, Salve Regina – Cranston
  • Ryan O’Donnell, Salve Regina – North Kingstown
  • Cameron Armenti, JWU – Warwick
  • Jake McDonough, JWU – Smithfield
  • Nicolas Fortes, JWU – Cranston
  • My apologies if I missed someone, I got the names off the rosters online for each school.

So, 11am game time – Salve vs JWU, Beck Field, Kingston. Beck Field is windy 365 days a year so plan on dressing accordingly. I am planning on going down to Beck at some point today to catch some RI baseball and I will be posting photos and comments on my social media pages as well.
